Why Gene Likes His New #05002 Medium Canvas Saddle Bag

Our friend Gene is a man about town. In addition to being our freelance IT/technology  guru, Gene is a personal trainer to the stars, a fixture fitting, fixing and selling bikes at one of the best bike shops in Minneapolis, he helps out B. Rose with his phone at the Shockspital and sometimes hangs with Matt at Space2Burn, where they yack about all sorts of technology stuff Anyway, Gene’s a good sport and will usually lend a hand when asked. Last week I offered up a #05002 for his trusty steed. Gene accepted, a bit enthusiastically I thought.  A couple days later he called me up and said he was in the neighborhood and needed a glass of water. I said c’mon over.

Ok, I don’t usually bother writing about products but this Minnehaha Bags Seatbag I just received is fantastic. After acquiring the messenger bag, I had to get the matching seatbag. First, the design of this product is spot on in these respects:

  • Neo-retro look – no Velcro here!
  • Soft touch cotton canvas with leather patches – enhances the look of my Brooks B66
  • ‘Just right size’ – roomy enough for your favorite 6 pack yet small enough to not get caught riding past objects
  • Ultra durable design – the leather patches and the wooden dowel stabilizer exude longevity
  • Fastening design – works for seat and post or in my case seat and rack!

At first, I was perplexed regarding how to mount this seat bag on the back of the commuter. Then I merely wound the main anchor strap around the springs on my vintage B66 and used the seatpost strap to anchor the bag to the top of my rack. This method has proven quite stable as the rack both adds support and side to side stability for the bag when riding briskly. For the price ($69.00) you can’t beat this product, it is a stylish and serviceable product. I think that it could see duty for years behind my butt.

Here are a few photos from Gene:

Suffice it to say, we’re happy that Gene likes his bag. Thanks Gene for the photos and the bag attachment tip.
